So lately I have found myself thinking more and more about my future and how I would like to live once I get further into the “real world.” Although this topic promotes me to visualize my older self, it also encourages me to reflect on the present time and how I live my life today. I am very thankful for the life that I have been blessed with as well as the way I was created.
I have noted to
myself that it is important to understand that my life today will shape my life
tomorrow. Although this saying is a bit clichĂ©’, it is true. In order to have a
future that you desire, steps must be taken now to lead to that desired way of
living.
We all have things that we aspire for in life whether it’s success,
joy, being healthier, or gaining more wealth. Oftentimes we are unable to meet
the level of satisfaction that we want in a certain area because we tend to
blame others or our own circumstances for keeping us away from our dreams. When we do this, it’s because we fail to
realize that what’s really keeping us back from our aspirations is ourselves. It
is the mindset that we possess and the actions that we take that will lead us
to the places we want to go.
Believing this has helped me to move forward towards
creating the life I want to live and shaping the person I desire to be.
Although this is something that I am still working on, I am able to recognize
that I have made progress overtime. I have developed a list of steps that I am
following and that I feel is beneficial towards achieving what is desired for my
life and self:
1. Don’t Complain
A famous quote by the late Maya Angelou states
“What you're supposed to do when you don't like a thing is change it. If you can't change it, change the way you think about it. Don't complain.”
“What you're supposed to do when you don't like a thing is change it. If you can't change it, change the way you think about it. Don't complain.”
Complaining is something that we are all guilty for doing at
some point in our lives. Although some complaining can be described as normal, too
much complaining is useless. Complaining without taking any action leads to no
problems being solved. It actually does more harm than good because it puts
people in unhappy moods as they verbalize their issues and focus more on their
problems. Instead of complaining, it
would be beneficial to take action and do something about the problem being
verbalized. Being grateful is also an important alternative to complaining
because every situation is capable of being worse.
2.
Think positive
Designing the life you want and becoming
the person you want to be all begins with the mind and the self. I am learning
about how the power of the mind is able to control the situations that we may
place ourselves in. In order to move forward towards something that we want to
gain, we must first change the way we think about it. As we think more positive
about what we want to achieve and when we begin to believe that we are capable
of succeeding, then our thoughts will reflect in our actions. This in turn will
help us meet the reality we want.
3.
Pray & Seek Guidance from God
Praying allows us to get closer to God by speaking
to him and giving thanks for all that he has done in our lives. Asking God for
help and guidance is a major step in getting to the next point in our lives.
With trust in the Lord’s power, he will empower us to achieve our goals and
pursue the plan that he has set out for us. He will also give us strength and
help us get through our day-to-day challenges. It is also important that we
trust God’s plan as he sometimes has a different and greater direction for us
than what we envisioned.
4.
Establish goals
Setting goals allows us to gain clarity
about what it is in life that we want and the type of people we want to become.
Understanding and knowing exactly what we want will help direct us towards
taking the necessary steps to achieving these aspirations. By writing these
goals down and reviewing them often, we are constantly reminded of what we want
to achieve. This keeps us motivated and organized during the process.
We all have thoughts about the type of life
that we want to live and the things that we want to accomplish. We also all
have the power to make these dreams happen. It may take some time to reach the
place where you desire to go but this is because great things take time. I
encourage you to stay focus towards your vision and to continue putting in
effort for whatever it is that you desire. After reaching your goal(s), you
will be able to look back and feel proud about your hard work, perseverance, and
accomplishments.
Best wishes to you in creating the life you
dream of. Believe in yourself and you will get there!
Love,
-Dikira
